Keith’s Mill trail is located in the town of Montague and can be accessed from Riverside Drive Extension, or from Sparrows Road at Knox’s Dam. This 1.7km out-and-back trail offers hikers beautiful views of the Montague River and was historically used by horse-and-buggy as the main route to Victoria Cross from 1890-1928. Parking is available at the Riverside Drive Ext. entrance. If you prefer to enter the trail off Sparrow’s Road, take some time to first visit Knox’s Dam before you head out. Parking is available on-site.
Initially begun as a grist mill site, Knox’s Dam was eventually converted in 1907 to a hydroelectric power plant which supplied electricity the Towns of Montague and Georgetown during the early 20th century. It is now a well-known recreational fishing area and was formerly recognized as one of Canada’s Historic Places in March 2009.
